VSL’s Synchron-ized Special Editions Sibelius Ultimate 2020.6 Score Playback

The Synchron-ized Special Editions are lovely!

This is the third version of the score I’ve done now. The 1st used the original Vienna Instruments Special Editions, and the second used EWQL Symphonic Orchestra.

For this version, I used the much newer Synchron-ized Special Editions available from VSL.

The Synchron player is different to the VI player in that it uses a Dimension Tree system for the articulations, not the matrix system of the original Vienna Instruments player.

This new way of working can be slightly easier to get your head around, and time stretching and humanisation control is still available, directly from the player. The samples come with mixer presets, that sounds fantastic!

Check out VSL’s site for more information on this brilliant new sample player here

Soudley Ponds are found very close to the village of Soudley, snuggled in the beautiful countryside of the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. I’m very lucky to live here.

The area comprises four ponds linked together surrounded by the tallest Douglas Fir trees I think I have ever seen.

I have to say, that the place is stunning, no matter what the weather.

You can walk all around the ponds, taking in the scenery and enjoy the wildlife that lives there as it’s a site of special scientific interest and is now in the care of the Forestry Commission.

I highly recommend a visit, and just across the road is the Dean Heritage Centre, a lovely museum dedicated to the Forest of Dean, that has a wonderful little cafe! Have a lovely walk, then pop in for tea and cake. A perfect day out!.

For this playback configuration, I used Vienna Ensemble (not the Pro Version) and each section of my orchestra are held in separate instances. You can of course load the Synchron player directly into the Sibelius mixer when your building your template, but using Ensemble gives you much greater control of the mix, plus you have the added benefit of being able to swap out instruments to the full versions (with the right sound set applied) any time you like.

I’ll be doing a blog soon on how I built this playback configuration, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

No additional EQ or effects have been applied, and no mixing has been done in a DAW (like Logic Pro X) for example.

On Soudley Ponds

A series of ponds stretching into beautiful woodlands. Very pretty scenery all year round, especially gorgeous in Autumn.

The playback is directly from Sibelius (Ultimate 2020.6)

If you’d like to use VSL and Sibelius, but need help setting everything up, don’t hesitate to contact me directly, or perhaps book a one-to-one, where we’ll go over everything together.

It’s a great way for me to show you exactly what you need to do to get started with these two pieces of amazing software!
